The Perfect Matcha Latte
My guide on the best ratios to make the perfect matcha latte

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 tsp high-quality matcha powder
- 50 ml warm water
- 10 g vanilla bean syrup, or sweetener of choice
- 1/2 cup milk of choice

Preparation
- Heat water in a kettle until warm, but not boiling.
- Prep the matcha whisk by letting it sit in the water for around 3 minutes. Then, prep the chawan by rinsing it in the warm water.
- Sift the matcha powder into the chawan. Add the water and start whisking, not quite touching the bottom of the bowl, in a zig zag motion or W shape for 30 seconds. Lift the whisk to the surface and continue whisking lightly until there's a uniform layer of microfoam. There shouldn't be any large bubbles.
Assemble the Matcha Latte
- Add ice to a glass and the vanilla bean syrup (or your sweetener of choice).
- Pour in the milk and top with the matcha.
- If there's any remaining matcha in the chawan, add a small amount of water and swirl it around before pouring it into the drink.
